The Blogger's Playbook

Your source-of-record guide to publishing strategy

The Channel Order Playbook: Which Channel to Publish First, and Why

publish-order

The biggest question new bloggers ask isn't how to write, it's where to publish. The order below turns one pillar post into a multi-channel asset while keeping your own site the source Google credits.

1stYour own blog (WordPress or your site)

This is the canonical home. Your domain gets the SEO credit, the backlinks, and the compounding traffic. Everything else links back here. Publish the full, complete, SEO-perfect version of the post here first.

2ndLinkedIn

The professional audience lives there, and it's where solo bloggers and small agencies build credibility fastest. But don't copy-paste: rewrite it shorter and conversational (800 to 1,500 words), lead with the most surprising stat, and end with one soft link to the full guide on your blog.

3rdMedium (with the Canonical URL set)

Medium ranks well and has discovery your own blog doesn't. Republish the full guide there, but set the Canonical URL field to your own blog post, that tells Google your site is the original, so you get Medium's reach without duplicate-content penalties. Same rule applies to Substack and Blogger.

4thYour newsletter

A 300 to 400 word digest of the key numbers keeps subscribers warm and drives existing readers back to the pillar post. This is where monetization begins, your list is the asset you own outright.

5th+Then the rest: X threads, Facebook, Tumblr, Webflow

Only expand to more channels once the core loop (blog → LinkedIn → Medium → newsletter) runs smoothly for several posts. One pillar, one home, N adaptations, never the reverse.
